Welcome to the SEMS Counseling Department
Our Mission
The mission of the school counseling program is to provide all students with a comprehensive school counseling program centered around a rigorous and relevant core curriculum that encourages the highest level of achievement through their growth in the social/emotional, career, and academic domains. In partnership with teachers, parents, administrators, and a supportive community, the school counselors will help all students to be successful in their journey in becoming a productive individual in a global society 5 to 15 years from now.
Our Vision
The vision statement of South Effingham Middle School Counseling Department is for all students to reach their full potential in the domains of academics, social/emotional, and career. Every student will experience an accepting and safe environment in which they will gain the necessary skills for high school, the work force, or college in order to compete in a global society 5 to 15 years from now.
Our Beliefs
The School Counselors of South Effingham Middle believe:

Every student should be respected throughout the implementation of the school counseling program.

Every student has innate gifts to be discovered, developed, and utilized.

Every student should have access to a comprehensive counseling program, which is driven by school data, research, and delivered by professional school counselors to meet the goals of all students.
The school counseling program should be designed, implemented, and evaluated by professional school counselors.
The school counselors should be an advocate for all students, a leader by example, and a bridge between school and home.
The school counselors should exemplify the ethical standards set forth by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Effingham County Schools
